Keep your device safe in summer

After long months of rain, coldness and extremely lengthy spring, we can officially say that summer 2019 has finally arrived in the UK. While all of us want to enjoy the sun and the warm weather as much as possible, we cannot forget about our mobile devices during the heat. After all, they most probably will be the ones who will keep us entertained when the sun disappears, and the much-loved rain will make a comeback, and are needed for all the great photos in the meantime. Therefore, we created a list of things which will help you to keep your phone safe in the summer.

While you’re sunbathing on the beach or in the garden, place your mobile under a bit of shade – put your clothes or towel on it or keep it under a beach umbrella (this also helps protect it from being stolen). If you won’t need the phone during the day, just leave it at home and make it a phone-free day. However, keep in mind that you should avoid leaving your device in a car, even if it is for ten minutes. Cars heat up extremely fast and the high temperature can damage your phone permanently.

If you notice that your phone is starting to overheat, turn it off and wait until you’re in a cooler place to turn it back on. If you have a fan handy, keep the device in front of it until it cools down. You can also try removing the phone case to speed up the cooling down process. However, if you don’t want to turn the device off completely, close all unnecessary apps and put the phone in airplane mode.

Dropping your device in the water might cause the phone to stop working completely and we are quite sure that the well-known rice trick won’t help either. Therefore, the smartest thing to do would be to try and keep the phone as far away from water as possible.To make sure that your phone is completely safe, you can invest in a waterproof phone case. The easiest and cheapest way, however, is to put the phone in a sealed plastic bag. The bag will also keep it safe from sand getting into headphone/charger jacks.

What to do if the phone ends up in the water after all and stops working?

If you don’t have insurance and the liquid damage is not extensive, try to shake or blow the water out of the phone. One way or another, the grease will end up on your device. Make sure you clean your device regularly with a microfiber cloth or baby wipes. However, don’t use paper towels because they can leave scratches on your phone’s display.

If not needed, turn off the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, since they use a lot of processor power which could generate extra heat. Try to avoid playing games and using the phone for navigation (unless you are lost in a foreign country and have no other choice).
