iPhone 11 Pro vs Galaxy Note 10 vs Pixel 4 XL vs Mate 30 Pro

Year 2019 is almost over, and all the biggest smartphone manufacturers have released their flagship devices. All of them are packed with the greatest technology, superb cameras and rather long battery life. But with Black Friday and Christmas just around the corner, we wanted to know, which of the four devices is the best? We compared the devices’ specs and rated them on four points – camera, performance, display and battery life.

Camera

All four devices have great cameras and even the biggest names in tech industry cannot decide which camera is the best.

Apple introduced its first triple-lens camera and called it the best camera on a smartphone. It features triple 12 MP cameras, including a new ultra-wide camera. However, Samsung’s Note 10 did not upgrade their camera significantly and its performance and quality is still very similar to the one of Galaxy S10 and S10 plus. Google Pixel 4 XL and the whole Pixel series is known for its great cameras and Pixel 4 XL is no exception. It has dual rear cameras with 12.2 and 16 MP. Android Authority, after series of extensive testing, has named it the best camera phone in 2019. This might be true, however the new Huawei Mate 30 Pro with impressive 40MP + 40MP+ 8MP camera could potentially take this title. However, it is still unclear whether the phone will ever see European and UK markets. Therefore, even though the rivalry is fierce, we will give the best camera phone title to Google Pixel 4 XL.

Performance

As expected, all of these phones feature the latest chip-sets in the market.

In terms of RAM, the iPhone 11 Pro features 4GB, Galaxy Note 10 has 8GB, same goes for Huawei Mate 30 Pro, but the Google Pixel 4 XL features 6GB of RAM. Apple’s and Google’s RAM size is a bit disappointing, however they make up for it with their processors. All phones are fast, switch between apps without problems and ensure great film-watching, swiping and gaming experience. However, Apple’s Bionic A13 chip is the feature which allows Apple iPhone 11 Pro to take the prize in this nomination. It’s technical advancement and speed is still ahead of Samsung’s new chip-set Exynos 9825, Huawei’s new Kirin 990 and Pixel’s Snapdragon 855. However, it is great to know, that phone manufacturers are starting to create new chip-sets with Samsung introducing Exynos and Huawei introducing Kirin 990. Let’s hope this trend continues and creates a bit more competition in this division.

Display

In terms of display size, it all depends on whether you like bigger or smaller screens.

The Huawei Mate 30 Pro has the biggest screen with 6.53 inches while Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and Google Pixel 4 XL has 6.3 inches big screens. iPhone 11 Pro has the smallest display with ‘only’ 5.8 inches. Pixel 4 XL has the highest Pixel Density, followed by iPhone 11 Pro. The same two win in the screen resolution division, with Google Pixel 4 XL being the best and providing crispier and clearer display than its rivals. The Samsung Note 10 is the only device using AMOLED displays, where the others have OLED, but the lack of QHD display does not allow Samsung to take the prize in this competition. Instead we would like to give a joint prize to Google Pixel 4 XL with QHD+ OLED display and iPhone 11 Pro with Super Retina XDR OLED display giving us the best user experience with their screens having better colour exposure and brightness than its competitors.

Battery life

All of these devices have significantly improved battery life than their predecessors.

A phone that would last at least a whole day was everything we all wanted, and our prayers have been answered this year. Various tests show that the iPhone 11 Pro, which battery life is supposed to be at least 4 hours longer than iPhone XS, has a battery life of 32 hours with moderate use. Google Pixel 4 XL has a lower battery life of 26 hours, but it will still last you the whole day without charge. Samsung Galaxy Note 10 battery life also promises a whole day without charging, averaging at 27-28-hour battery life, where the Huawei Mate 30 Pro offers a shocking 48-hour battery life with light usage and around 30 hours with moderate use. All of these phones support fast charging so even if you are on your phone all the time, you can charge it back up pretty quickly. We would like to nominate two winners in this category. If talking about the improvement, then the prize goes to iPhone 11 Pro, with Apple improving the battery life of the device for more than four hours. If looking at things generally, the Huawei Mate 30 Pro has the best and longest battery life. However, the phone is still not available in the UK market.

Verdict

In our opinion, all of these devices are great. However, the iPhone 11 Pro showed great performance in three out of four points in this review. This device, however, is pretty expensive with £1,049 RRP. Google Pixel 4 XL performed great in this review as well, so if you’re looking for a cheaper and almost-as-good-as-iPhone alternative you can get the Google Pixel 4 XL for £759. If you decide to buy any of these devices, remember that they are a big investment, therefore they deserve the best protection.
